Feng Shui Money Frog
To attract financial success, the money frog is placed in the left corner diagonal from the main entrance to a room. The area should be free from clutter and everything around the frog should be in good repair. You can also place the money frog in the left corner diagonally from your seat on your desk. Again, the area around the money frog should be clear of clutter. In businesses, Chan Chu is often placed on the left hand side of the cash register. If your home is in desperate need of a cash influx, the money frog can be placed right inside your front door facing inwards.
Most money frogs are made of plaster and painted in metallic shades of gold and silver. This relates back to the metal element in the bagua, the template for feng shui designing. Money frogs can also be forged from actual metals. Theoretically, this will increase the positive energy from feng shui because it embodies the metal element. Many money frogs will be made with a coin their mouths. Chan Chu is usually forged sitting either on a haphazard pile of coins, egg shaped ingots, or a feng shui mirror. The money frog is a three-legged frog because it is a symbol derived from a myth with historical facts intertwined.
Chan Chu is thought to be the immortal pet of the immortal Liu-Hai. Lui-Hai was a financial minister to a prince in 10th century China. Shortly after Liu-Hai accepted his post with the prince, an enlightened man came to visit him. He stacked three eggs together to form a frog and placed gold coins between each. The man told Lui-Hai that his task was easier than serving a prince who had gained power illegitimately. Lui-Hai quit his post, and with Chan Chu as a companion, he went on a quest to find perfection. Eventually, Liu-Hai gained immortality and became a symbol of success and transformation. Chan Chu became the symbol for wealth.
The feng shui money frog can be found in Asian markets in most American cities. It is traditional to give Chan Chu as a present to recent graduates, newlyweds, and people starting new businesses. Apprentices and students give Chan Chu to their instructors.
